I had to look this word up.
I couldn’t believe it was real.
A whole new world I found
And yes it involved a meal.

It comes from South Africa many years ago
Of Dutch and German descent
Slang for someone uninvited
spongeing food and drink and probably money for rent.

Although being ‘taken advantage of
can in itself be a drag
always facing an empty dinner table
can make you feel like a hag.

Loneliness and no conversation
many times in a row
hopes for the opscheplooper
to make another show.

An uninvited dinner guest
might be just the thing
to liven up the day
and fill the evening.
