When I think of writing a poem I think of
Short stories and fancy words that leave
My vision the paper or screen
And float off into the universe never to be seen.
When I think of reading poems
I hope its words will move me
either to dance
or sing
or think
or remember.
When I hear poetry
It takes a lot to hold my attention.
What is the story?
How does it make me feel?
What do I see?
Poems are a sensual experience to me.
Most of all
I was even more affected to poem
When all the rules were shattered
And rhyme no longer mattered
Capital letters were thrown out the door
And punctuation was necessary no more.
In that came the freedom
of acceptance for wordsmith, beatnik or bum
No subject off limits
No time frame in minutes.
